The purpose of the Hui exhibition program is to cultivate in the public a wider appreciation of and interest in art by promoting cultural exchange, spurring dialogue, enhancing the awareness of and providing access to the visual arts; ultimately creating a space for community arts. With up to 8 rotating exhibitions each year, those living both on and off island are afforded a diverse range of opportunities to show their work including a themed media-based, juried, solo exhibition and more. Additional components include free lectures, panel discussions, gallery tours and field trips.
Ranging from a one-day workshop to weekly sessions running 4-9 weeks, classes for those aged 2 and higher are led by teaching artists devoted to lifelong learning in the visual arts. Our limited enrollment practice ensures a spirit of community while presenting high quality training and practice in a small group setting. Students are given the framework for developing artistic skills in painting, drawing, jewelry design, printmaking, photography, digital media, ceramics, and more. With competitive fees and scholarships, classes are kept accessible so that all interested adults and children have the opportunity to participate.
State of the art studios staffed by artist technicians in printmaking, photography (Maui’s only public darkroom), painting and drawing, digital media, fiber arts, ceramics and jewelry, provide a vital resource for both artist practitioners and students. The space as well as support provided through this program offers opportunities for community exchange, artistic guidance, inspiration and influence, along with the necessary tools to create in a wide variety of artistic media.
