Introduction to Black & White Photography
Explore traditional black and white photography! In this two-day class, students will become familiar with the Holga camera and its operational features. Brian will then teach students the basics of film development and will take students into the Hui’s darkroom (only public darkroom in the state) to make photographic prints. If you want to create unique prints, this is the class for you!

Brian Miller received his BA and MA in photography and has worked as a staff photographer for Surfer Magazine. He has taught at colleges in California, at Maui Community College, and in the Hawai‘i Department of Education. His photographs have been in many exhibitions and are part of a number of individual and institutional collections.
Composition—Learning to See: Digital Photography Level 1
If you are already familiar with your camera & feel comfortable using the manual setting, this class will help you to “see” more creatively. Aubrey will explain basic photography composition techniques and will give students time to head out onto the beautiful grounds of the Hui to practice skills, explore, and experiment! Prerequisite: Navigating Your DSLR or equivalent experience

In the Field—Using Your DSLR: Digital Photography Level 2
This class develops and advances the basic skills learned in Level 1. Aubrey will dive deeper into aperture and shutter speed controls. The class will also discuss real life shooting scenarios to help dial in skills, make correct exposures, and ensure you are a successful photographer in any lighting condition. Prerequisite: Beginning Digital Photography, Beginner’s Guide class series, Level 1 classes or equivalent experience

Lighting Techniques: Digital Photography Level 2
Getting your subject or object lit correctly is vital to creating a great photograph. This class focuses on the basics of lighting, including using natural light, reflectors, diffusers, and flash. Students will have the opportunity to work in various lighting conditions to learn how to get the correct exposure. Prerequisite: Beginning Digital Photography, Beginner’s Guide class series, Level 1 classes or equivalent experience
