Introduction to Clay and Beginning Wheel Throwing Register Now! Beginner Deb Zaleski Thursdays, 8 weeks September 30, 2010 - November 18, 2010 9:00 am - 12:00 noon Ceramics Studio Experience the magic of creating functional ceramics on the potter’s wheel! In this step-by-step introduction to working with clay, students will learn basic terminology and clay properties and will practice proper techniques of wedging, centering, and forming vessels. Every student will finish class with beautifully glazed mugs, bowls, and/or plates.

Decorating with Texture and Dry Slip Register Now! Open Chris Cowan Saturday, 1 day October 2, 2010 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Ceramics Studio Chris will demonstrate how to decorate hand-built pots with texture techniques and colored slips. Known as “dry brushing,” the use of slips in a pudding-like consistency allows the ceramicist to add color to pottery without obliterating texture. Students will have the opportunity to try these techniques on a piece, but firing and glazing will not be offered as part of this seminar.

Colored Clay & the Art of Inlay Register Now! Open Deb Zaleski Saturday, 1 day October 16, 2010 9:00 am - 2:00 pm Ceramics Studio Students will learn to create colored clay and slips using oxides and stains. Deb will also demonstrate the techniques used for inlaying the colors into vessels and slab work. Please come prepared to take notes. Some knowledge of clay is helpful but not required.
