THANK YOU
From all of us at Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center, thank you for your invaluable support this year. Together, we’ve created a year of amazing accomplishments for the Hui. We know this positive momentum will continue well into the new year—and you can help by giving a gift to our 2011 Annual Giving Campaign.
A few of the exciting achievements made possible through your support this year include:
Hui No‘eau recently launched the new Environmental Art Garden: Ho‘ololi with the creation of the maze-like “Stickwork” sculpture, On the Wild Side, which was built by renowned artist Patrick Dougherty and a community of over 200 volunteers and donors. The 2011 Artist in Residence Program was jam-packed with inspirational and engaging activities, including opportunities to work alongside Patrick to remove invasive tree saplings and construct the hand-woven sculpture, participate in adult workshops and collaborative youth field-trips with Maui Invasive Species Committee, attend a FREE panel discussion & artist lecture, and much more!
It was a banner year for the Hui’s Exhibition Program with sky-rocketing entry numbers in the Annual Juried Exhibition—one of Maui’s most competitive and prestigious juried arts exhibitions. Other highly regarded 2011 exhibitions include the unique and dynamic Solo Artist Exhibition featuring works by Sidney Yee, Kevin Omuro and Scott Groeniger; and the return of the Hui’s acclaimed Retrospective Series with Darrell Orwig’s Waltzing with Time and Place. The Hui’s 2011 exhibits boast increasing attendance numbers at opening receptions and continue to showcase the Hui as a community resource for artists to display their work in a quality space—FREE and accessible to the public.
This year, over 500 Maui children have benefited from Hui No‘eau’s Camp Kaluanui art program and continuing partnerships with Maui’s schools and community organizations. Your support of Hui keiki programs nourishes and molds future leaders of your community and brings the best in visual arts education to Maui’s schools as well as at risk youth and children with special needs.
As part of The Kaluanui Preservation & Stewardship Program, Hui No‘eau continues to make great strides in accomplishing facility and grounds improvements, including repairs to the roof of the nearly 100-year-old main house and other structures, and the installation of additional safety features such as new railings. The Hui is dedicated to preserving its estate to provide open and beautiful space for public use and to maintaining Kaluanui’s historic presence and character for generations to come.
Hui No‘eau Open Studios have been bustling with creativity as record-breaking attendance continues to rise. The Open Studio Program provides students and community artists access to work independently in professional artist studios with top-of-the-line equipment and tools. Students and seasoned artists are able to hone their skills, build their portfolios and even launch their careers from these studios—a truly vital resource for the community.
How can you help continue to create exceptional visual arts education for you and the community? Take action now by giving to Hui No‘eau and the 2011 Annual Giving Campaign. Your 100% tax-deductible contribution to the Hui will help provide invaluable opportunities in the visual arts that benefit you and your community.
Mahalo nui loa for ensuring a successful future for Hui No‘eau!
Sincerely,
Shannon Hoekstra
