Artist Walkthrough with Terry Lopez: Thursday, July 21 / 3pm
Maui-based artists Nancy Young and Terry Lopez will present two concurrent solo exhibits in the Hui's adjoining gallery spaces as part of the 2022 Solo Artist Exhibition. Hui No‘eau’s Solo Artist Exhibition series provides two artists with the unique opportunity to be involved in all facets of exhibition planning and installation. It challenges artists to envision and produce an innovative and cohesive body of work to be shown in a professional gallery setting. Through an open call to artists across the state, Young and Lopez were selected as the two artists to present their solo shows in this year’s exhibition.
Nancy Young will introduce Along the Yellow Brick Road—a series of large-scale mixed media works reflecting the various tales, observations, and surroundings that have shaped her. Young’s work combines words and drawings to explore art as a means for advocacy, all the while maintaining a sense of humor and playfulness.
Terry Lopez will present Contemporary Hawaiian Visions. Lopez’s new work focuses a finely tuned artistic eye on the culture of Hawai‘i. As an interpretive oil painter, Lopez’s view of vintage plantation homes, landscapes, and ocean canoes is seen through the contemporary lens of pattern, color choices, and her subtle graphic style.
The exhibition will be open to the public with free admission on Wednesdays-Saturdays from 9 AM - 4 PM.
Support for this exhibition is provided in part by Hawai‘i Tourism Authority through the Community Enrichment Program.
